Sober living housing is a large step down from residential treatment, and a small step above completely independent living. Those who are new to sobriety often benefit from living in a safe, structured and supportive environment as they begin to navigate day-to-day life. Sober living housing enforces a structured set of rules, all geared towards helping recent graduates of inpatient treatment develop a solid routine that will ultimately lend itself towards long-term, drug and alcohol-free living. Some of the guidelines that will be enforced included staying completely sober (regular drug tests will be administered), keeping personal space and common areas clean, finding a job and working full-time, becoming financially independent, respecting others in the household, participating in 12 step meetings on a daily basis, and waking up/going to bed at a certain time. Curfew will also be enforced. This structured living allows the development of crucial life and social skills, while providing additional support during a potentially difficult time.
