Will I Ever Feel Normal Abusing Benzodiazepines?

Benzodiazepines are a prescriptions drug that is known for being very habit forming and addictive. They are mostly prescribed to treat anxiety disorders, insomnia, epilepsy, PTSD, and even treat alcohol withdrawal. Benzos include drugs like Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, Valium, Restoril, and Alprazolam to name a few. This drug works by making the brain less sensitive to stimulation, which creates a calming effect on both the mind and the body. Benzodiazepines have an exceedingly high risk for dependency, abuse, and addiction.

Will I Ever Feel Normal Abusing Benzodiazepines?

Will You Feel Normal After Taking Benzos?

Even when you are prescribed benzodiazepines by a doctor and it is taken as prescribed, you will not feel normal. Benzodiazepines are tranquilizers. This drug is meant to promote calmness and a feeling of overall relaxation. When taken as prescribed, this kind of drug still has the potential to cause irritability, hostility, and temporary loss of memory.

This drug is very easily abused because of the calming and numb effects it has on the user. When you are abusing this drug you will never feel “normal”, after all, anyone abusing benzos is not in the business of feeling normal. Take it from someone who abused this drug first hand. I abused benzos so that I could feel numb to the world around me. One of the only reasons I used them was so that I didn’t have to feel normal. I didn’t want to feel anything at all.

The Dangers of Benzodiazepines

Benzodiazepines cause a euphoric, stuck on the couch and unable to move, kind of high. My brain almost stopped working when I was high too. I didn’t have to think or feel anything. The short answer to this question is, no you will never feel normal abusing benzodiazepines. The only way I was ever able to feel normal and healthy was when I stopped abusing benzos and sought some real help.

Do Benzos Cause Changes In Your Mood?

When benzodiazepines are abused for a long period, you will experience mental, physical, and behavioral changes. I personally completely did not recognize myself after I abused this drug for so long. Behavioral changes will probably be the first thing to happen. Whether subtle changes or apparent, it is inevitable. You will lose interest in your surroundings and daily activities that you once enjoyed and maybe even excelled in. You will probably sleep a lot more and when you are awake, you will be sluggish and lethargic.

Since this strong prescription drug is being abused, physical changes will happen too. The most noticeable ones are loss in coordination and movement and slurred speech. As more time passes, it is common to see weight gain. Benzos tend to cause the “munchies”. Overeating with a combined loss in physical exercise will cause weight gain.

Mental impairment is a very common side effect of benzodiazepine abuse. Benzos cause your brain to react slower and it can even cause loss of memory. Changes in your mental capacity can continue long after the abuse has stopped. Your mind needs time to heal too just as your body does.
